Our cardiac staff has the experience and expertise to effectively handle every aspect of cardiac care.
Mukul Chandra, MD, Cardiologist
Mukul Chandra, MD is a board-certified cardiologist with Miami Valley Cardiologists, Inc. and the director of Preventive Cardiology and Clinical Research at Miami Valley Hospital. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Chandra is an active advocate of preventive cardiology measures and serves on the Dayton Metro Board of the American Heart Association.
Brenda Bodenmiller, RNC, BSN, Manager of Premier HeartWorks
Brenda Bodenmiller, RN, BSN, is nurse manager for the Premier HeartWorks program, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program and the Wellness Center. Brenda is responsible for the day-to-day operations of each program. Brenda assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of primary and secondary prevention programs centered on heart disease and wellness. She also conducts presentations on primary and secondary prevention and overall wellness to peers, continuing education credit hour audiences, and the general community. Brenda is certified as a Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse, and is pursuing a master’s degree.
Vicky Rasor, M. Ed., Cardiovascular Health Promotion Coordinator
Vicky Rasor is the Cardiovascular Health Promotion Coordinator at Miami Valley Hospital’s Premier HeartWorks program. She develops policy and procedure for new cardiovascular screening programs, coordinates day-to-day activities, and serves as liaison between HeartWorks, patients, and physicians. Vicky holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Cincinnati in Health Promotion and Education with a concentration in Exercise Physiology.
Joan Wire MEd, RD, LD, Dietary Counselor
Joan Wire is a registered dietitian at Premier HeartWorks where she assesses the clients’ dietary habits as it relates to heart health. Joan also develops individualized plans to aide in the implementation of life-long dietary changes for the client. She is a certified instructor for the LIFESTEPS® Weight Management Program which she teaches throughout the year. Additionally, Joan provides education through lectures, handouts, and displays for clients as well as the general public. Joan holds a Master of Nutrition Education from the University of Cincinnati.
Deborah Nordstrom, RN
Deb Nordstrom is an RN at Miami Valley Hospital in Cardiac Rehabilitation and at Premier HeartWorks. She coaches patients in Cardiac Rehabilitation. Through secondary prevention changes, that encompass planned activity, stress management, and relaxation techniques, Deb guides and supports patients towards a healthier heart. At HeartWorks she assesses clients for primary prevention cardiovascular risks, helping them make daily healthier choices to improve their overall cardiovascular health. Deb is certified in cardiac Yoga, which she teaches to patients, employees, and members of the community. Cardiac Yoga uses physical activity and breathing practices to help individuals compliment their daily lives and medical regimens, as well as manage stress.
Christine Smith, MS, HeartWorks Specialist
Christine Smith is a clinical exercise physiologist at Premier HeartWorks located at Miami Valley Hospital South. She conducts initial assessments, performs fitness evaluations, and develops exercise prescriptions for women enrolled in the exercise program. While supervising and evaluating patients' responses to exercise, Christine provides education through activities, discussions, and displays. She holds a Master of Exercise Science degree from the University of Dayton in Exercise Physiology and Health Education and has over six years of experience in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Wellness. Christine will graduate from Wright State-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health in June 2011 with a BSN.
Mary Vandagriff, RN, BSN
Mary Vandagriff is a Registered Nurse at Miami Valley South Health Center. Her work with Premier HeartWorks clients includes assessment, intervention planning, care planning, goal setting, and evaluation. She is also a support nurse for Cardiac Rehabilitation and the Wellness Center at Miami Valley Hospital. Mary holds a B.S. in Nursing from Andrews University.
