Tobacco Free Campuses
Premier Health Partners (PHP) has made our hospital grounds tobacco free. This change was made to offer a healthier environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Going above and beyond the Ohio tobacco law that requires smoking and tobacco use to be outdoors, we’ve moved it off our grounds completely for totally tobacco free campuses.
What Does a Tobacco Free Campus Mean for Patients?
Patients will not be allowed to use tobacco products anywhere on the hospitals’ grounds, property, and parking areas. (Tobacco products include, but are not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and chewing tobacco.) All smoking areas on the campuses will be eliminated.
What Does This Mean for Hospital Visitors, Vendors, and Staff?
Visitors, vendors, and hospital staff must leave hospital property to use tobacco products. Because PHP hospitals strive to be good neighbors to nearby residents and businesses, we strongly discourage tobacco users from going to surrounding neighborhoods to smoke.
Can a Person Smoke in the Car?
Smoking is not permitted in the parking lots or in the garages on PHP hospital campuses.
Why Did We Make PHP Campuses Tobacco Free?
As a health care leader in Ohio, we believe it is important to model healthy behavior. PHP also has a responsibility to provide a healthy, safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. In addition, the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association and the southwest Ohio region unanimously adopted a region-wide tobacco free campus recommendation to be implemented by January 1, 2008.
